An instrument's file stays an instrument's file: nothing is changed silently, and every edit is written inside the .sor you save.
What we actually read
Every format was worked out from real instrument files, not from a description in a specification.
.trc — the EXFO container
"AppReg Format Ex" — what the FTB platforms write and FastReporter opens. The layout was measured across 104 files; 33 of them are checked on every build.
.sor from FTB platforms
EXFO's Telcordia dialect is read by the native parser, like any other instrument's file. That one you can also edit and save back as .sor.
.bdr — bidirectional
The same EXFO container, holding pairs instead of single fibers. Each fiber arrives as two traces, A→B and B→A, and both are visible on one chart.
There is nothing to download
People look for an EXFO viewer as a Windows installer — "download", "free download", "64 bit". There is nothing to install: the page opens by link on macOS, Windows and Linux, from a tablet and from a phone, and needs no account. What happens to the file you open is stated plainly in the terms of use.
What we do not read yet
The early EXFO containers — from the FTB-100 and FTB-300 — we name but do not open: we hold no samples of them, and we will not guess a layout from a product name. If you have such a file, send it to ilya@cheredin.ru and we will work the format out from it.
